Cycling is becoming an extremely popular way to keep fit and to lose weight as more and more people realise the benefits of it.
My Mentor, Roy Savery, is one of the fastest cyclists in the world for his age group. He trains by cycling really fast for at least a couple of hours most days.
I used to cycle a lot myself - cycling to and from work and going out on Club rides at the weekends and touring in the holidays. I found it a great way to keep fit and exhilarating and it gives you a great feeling of accomplishment after completing a long ride.
However, you can cycle for general fitness without having to do gruelling training runs like Roy. It has so many advantages to many other ways of keeping fit. For example, the weight of your body is taken by the bike whereas with jogging all that pounding goes through your body and puts a strain on the joints.
Cycling is a very enjoyable way to keep fit and lose weight. You can also easily incorporate it into your daily lifestyle by doing the daily commute or by nipping down to the shops. If you join a club it can also be a very social way to keep fit.
Here are some tips to help you get started cycling:
* A study of more than 10,000 people found that those who cycle at least 20 miles a week are half as likely to have heart problems as those who don't cycle.
* If you want a bike for riding mainly on the road, a hybrid bike with road tyres is probably the best bike to get. If you're buying a new bike, don't buy a mountain bike unless you intend to ride off road.
* It's important to have a saddle that's comfortable for you. Leather saddles used to be extremely popular for this as over time they would mould themselves to your shape. The downside of them is that it takes time to break them in and meanwhile they can be uncomfortable, they need to be oiled from time to time, which can stain your clothes, and they can be ruined by the rain.
Saddles with gel padding are very popular because they mould themselves to your shape without needing to have a breaking in period.
* It's very important for comfortable riding to have the saddle set to the correct height. To check this out sit on the saddle with the peddle at it's lowest point. Put your heel on the peddle and there should be a slight bend in the knee. If not then adjust your saddle accordingly.
* The secret to enjoyable cycling is to spin low gears. This means to select a gear that you can comfortably pedal with. Do not push really hard on the peddles in a high gear. This puts pressure on the joints and can become painful. With cycling it is NOT true to say "no pain, no gain".
* If you're going do a lot of cycling then it's worth getting special cycling shorts or long trousers. These are cut in a different way from ordinary shorts so that the seams are in a different place to make them more comfortable. I found that cotton underwear with made-to-measure corduroy shorts or trousers was a very comfortable combination. If you decide on padded shorts then you shouldn't wear underwear with them.
* Build endurance by cycling regularly. Cycle at least twice per week to get the full benefit from it.
* Burn fat by increasing your intensity, going faster, doing sprints or intervals. Do this by riding as hard as you can for two minutes then take it easy for two minutes and repeat this sequence a few times.
If you get started cycling in this way you'll get fit, keep fit, lose weight and have an enjoyable time doing it.

Buying the ideal Mathews Solocam bow
From the beginning, one of the first matters to consider when getting a bow is the type of cam that you want to go with. A cam is referring to the wheels that are at each end of your bow draw string. They are used to keep the force balanced and also help to control the draw speed. The type of cam you choose may make a large difference in the performance that you get. You may choose from a soft cam, aggressive cam, or a single cam. The soft cam allows for a smooth pull and may give great aim, but there isn't as significantly energy. With an aggressive cam, you get more energy, which is great for hunting with the compound bow. Then you have the single cam, which is quiet - a great option for hunting. Usually single cam bows also stay in tune for the life of the bow.
Compound bow hunting may provide a new challenge to the avid hunter who is looking for something a little different. The hunter who has mastered the art of using a rifle may love the thrill of learning to hunt in an exciting new way. The bow has long been used to hunt game all the way back to the Native Americans. It has been used successcompletely for hundreds of years, maybe even longer. But, it has changed drastically over time as Man has found ways to make the bow stronger and more accurate, it's design sprouting in plenty of different ways.
If you don't know your draw length, you should determine that prior to shopping for a new bow. Most men's bows adjust within a typical 26-30 draw length range, which fits shooters from roughly 5'5 to 6'3. But, that's not true for every bow. Most bows have a narrow range of adjustment, or in some cases, no adjustment at all. So step one in selecting your new bow is finding a model may adjust to match your individual draw length. Having said that, if you have an unusually short or long draw length, your choices may be limited. So you'll need to take individual notice of the bow's advertised draw length range.
Mathews offers numerous kinds of bows with first-rate and high-tech qualities. From hunting bows, competition bows, beginner bows, old style bows, and bow accessories, Mathews bows may meet every type of archer's need and requirements. Hunters may find Drenalin LD hunting bow to be best in performance, featuring longer ATA. Thinner, tougher, lighter, faster, cooler, and quieter hunting bow that meets and goes beyond all archer's expectations. Those into archery competition may find 2007's Conquest 4 to be just the correct thing for winning. The latest in the Conquest models, Conquest 4 features harmonic dampers, perimeter-weighted Conquest 4 Max Cam, carbon cable rod, and V-lock Limb Cups, as well as a completely machined Aeroriser.

Can someone help me identify this Trek?
Trying to figure out which model, so that I can gauge if the one I am looking at (used) is good price.
Blue and silver paint scheme, carbon fork, has the letters "SL" on the frame, Shimano Ultegra rear derailleur, say "bontrager" on the wheels and frame. Older model maybe 2007?? They want $449 for it.
What model Trek is this?
Thanks for your help!!!!!
Most Treks have wheels that say Bontrager.
A few have Ultegra rear derailleurs.
Blue and silver with a carbon fork tells me it may very well be a 2006 1500. It should be a 9 speed cassette, 105 front derailleur, 105 shifters, Cane Creek or Bontrager brakes. $449 is about 1/2 of the original price in 2006. The paint should be a blue to silver fade. (If it has Discovery Channel on the seat tube -- for sure it's a 1500.)
I tend to doubt that some one would upgrade that bike so what is on it, most likely came that way.
If it is a 1500 -- a decent club bike.
