Here are some more information for Shimano Deore:

All bicycles can be divided into better bicycles and worse ones, the difference being made by the components and by other such details. Therefore, here are a few things about mid-level bikes ad the first thing you should know is that they can be divided into two categories.
First of all, you have the bicycles which are called "entry towards mid-level bikes". You can find these bikes at prices ranging from five hundred euros to about six hundred fifty euros, they feature a range of Deore components when it comes to the brakes and Shimano XT components when it comes to the levers. You can also find Sram components on this kind of bicycles.
Then, we have the bikes which feature mid-level components. The prices with these bicycles are usually between six hundred fifty euros and one thousand euros, they feature Shimano XT and Shimano SLX components both when it comes to the brakes and to the levers. Sram also has the X.7 and X.9 lines of components.
To keep it short, this category is the ideal compromise between a bike which can be found at an average price and one that can be exploited in more difficult conditions. Most of these bicycles feature hydraulic brake discs and different other such components belonging to the same class. The choice is all the manufacturers'. Most of the forks found with these bikes are manufactured by RockShox, Manitou, but also by FOX Racing Shox or Marzocchi. Also, you should know that these bicycles usually weigh between eleven and twelve kilograms.

Choosing a Shimano Mountain Bike Component
Mountain bike components are designed to withstand more abuse and extreme riding conditions. These components are heavier, sometime larger and more durable then road bike components. Sometime you are riding on dirt, rock, or in water, etc and the components need to be durable enough so they can withstand abusive treatment.
It just so happened that my rear derailleur broke on my full suspension mountain bike. I was riding a down hill trail and lost control of my bike. The rear of the bike ended up hitting the face of a rock and I was left with a mangled rear derailleur. So I looked at the positive side of the accident and said to myself now is the time to upgrade.
I could find new or near new parts on Bike Servant which is a mountain bike classifieds website and lists mountain bikes for sale, bike parts and race events but I was in the car with my bike so I decided to go to the store.
On the way home from the trail I stopped at my local bike store to buy a new derailleur so I can resume riding as quickly as possible. I told the bike shop guy my situation and she asked me which aftermarket Shimano derailleur I wanted to buy. Not knowing anything about the different categories in the Shimano product line I asked for help and this is what she relayed to me.
Shimano Deore is their entry level category. These products are inexpensive and meant for the occasional or enthusiast rider. These components are stocked on entry level mountain bikes.
Shimano Deore LX is their next level in higher quality. This category level consists of a more durable product. The main difference that I noticed is that Deore LX is lighter then Deore. My derailleur was a Deore LX and it has shown me proven quality and reliability for many years.
Shimano Deore XT was referred to as their heavy duty category. This product category is not considered race quality performance but they are light weight and more durable then the LX category. The price difference between the LX category and the XT category was noticeable.
Shimano XTR is considered their high performance category. Again these parts are lighter then the XT category. As a consumer I took notice to the price increase from XT to XTR. It appeared to me that this category appeals to the racers that demand light weight and high performance.
Keep in mind that this is not a complete list of Shimano's product line. It is the list that my bike store carried.
So in my quest to buy a new derailleur I decided to purchase the Shimano Deore XT because of its light weight, durability and price. I had the bike shop install it for me and I was back on the trail in no time.

Shimano Alivio vs Deore?
I am spending $500 on a bike being built with groupset all Alivo and suntour xcr with lockout and a aluminium no name Taiwan import frame. The salesman told me if I were to upgrade to Deore then I would want to upgrade the forks as well and because I am a recreational rider that it is not worth the expense. He also said the Deore groupset will need more maintenance and tuning than the alivio, is this correct??
Thanks for the good advice! as I said I am a recreational rider so I wont be doing anything advanced. I just wanted to know if it is worth paying the money for the Deore and better forks or because I am not an advanced rider stay with the config and upgrade later. I am in Ecuador and brand bikes cost more and the shipping costs are expensive to buy cheap online. I can pay up to $600-$650. Thanks!
The sales guy is wrong.
Alivio is Shimanos top of the line UTILITY grade of components while Deore is their entry level MTB series. The forks have nothing to do with the drivetrain.
Deore is a better gruppo and will be more reliable in the long run, but in the interest of saving a couple of bucks I would keep the front derailleur, then change the shifters and rear derailleur. Deore shifters are MUCH better than Alivio. Also, Alivio chainrings cannot be changed while Deore can which will increase the life of the component.
Regarding the fork, it will be fine for trails that have rain ruts or baby head sized boulders but is absolutely not for technical terrain or serious trails.
If I were you, I would get my money back and RUN away from this guy, then find another shop that will not "pull your leg".
